Gylfi Sigurdsson is the most wanted footballer in the world
Where's Gylfi Sigurdsson off to now? It's getting hard to keep track these days.
Six months ago Icelandic footballer Gylfi Sigurdsson was a barely used player at mid-Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim. One stunning loan spell at Swansea later and now he is the hottest property in English football.
The midfielder had been good as a youngster at Reading but after choosing Germany he typically fell off the English radar.
However Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers remembered him from his Reading days and in 18 appearances for the Swans last season he scored seven and set up countless goals, becoming a firm Fantasy Football favourite in the process.
Swansea agreed a £6.8million deal to sign him after the season ended but Rodgers’ move to Anfield threw a spanner in the works. He was expected to follow his boss to Liverpool but now Spurs have gotten involved, even though they don’t have a manager right now.
Reports today suggest that he will head to White Hart Lane as a replacement for Luka Modric, who is expected to move elsewhere.
Spurs are reported to have agreed a deal with the club that still holds his papers, Hoffenheim, and he now looks to be set to wear white again next season, albeit for a different club.
The 22-year-old was excellent last season so we can understand the demand. We also expect Rodgers, and Liverpool, to have another crack at landing their man.
We don’t think this first transfer tug-of-love of the summer is over just yet.
