We’ve often said there is no-one quite like Lionel Messi but it seems there is another footballer with the same name, a young Cameroon defender to be precise.
Having the same name as another famous person can be tricky. It was always hard to take General Michael Jackson serious when he was on the news as head of the British army and Abide Pele (and his sons) will never be able to live to up to their more famous namesake.
We suspect the same fate awaits a young Cameroon defender who has just signed for Angers, a team in the French second tier, called Lionel Messi. Aged just 16, the Argentinian genius was only seven or eight when Cameroonian was born so how the name ‘Lionel Messi’ came to be attached to him remains a mystery.
It is hard enough for young lads to make it without being named after possibly the greatest player ever, and one who will probably be around for another decade at least, so we wish him all the best. He is an under-17 international with Cameroon, according to Goal.com, so he has some talent but we supect he might be just a little short of the Barcelona man's skills.
We hope we're wrong.
