It looks like Andy Carroll wants to go back to Newcastle

16/07/2012 4:34 pm

According to Sky Sports, Andy Carroll is ready to leave Liverpool for Newcastle but he has one small worry about returning home.

Second acts in football can be a success. Thierry Henry’s brief return to Arsenal was a good one. As was Jurgen Klinsmann’s second trip stint at Spurs. Robbie Keane’s return to the same club didn’t work out quite so well.

Still, it looks like another new Liverpool striker is about to follow Robbie and return to their former club. Andy Carroll now seems a cert to leave Anfield. In fact, Sky Sports report that he has been told he can leave. And it seems the England striker fancies a return to St James’ Park as Sky claim that ‘a source close to Carroll’ has told them he wants to play in the black and white stripes again.

But he has a reservation about it; the fans. The Newcastle supporters weren’t best pleased when he left and Carroll was booed when he returned to play there April with Liverpool. Sky are reporting that he ‘fears hostility’ from the terraces if he returns.

Alan Pardew has already had one loan offer for Carroll turned down but they are expected to try again, especially now that the 23-year-old has indicated he fancies going back.

West Ham and AC Milan have also been linked with taking Carroll off of Brendan Rodgers' hands but it sounds to us that Carroll will be back in Newcastle in time for the big kick-off in August.

And once he nodsa few in for the Magpies, the boos will soon stop.
