Joe Allen completes Liverpool move

11/08/2012 12:51 pm

Liverpool have finally confirmed the signing of Swansea midfielder Joe Allen and ‘Pool boss Rodgers reckons he got a sweet deal from his former club Swansea.

The 22 year-old joined former boss Brendan Rodgers at Anfield in a deal that could cost up to £15 million pounds and trebles the Welsh midfielder's wages to £45,000 a week.

Speaking on his latest acquisition Rodgers said, “This boy when you see him play you’d think he was Spanish, a real European player. I would have paid many more millions for this kid. He’s unique in that he is a British player who just does not give the ball away. .... Joe’s game understanding is very, very good and he is in love with the football, he loves it, he wants it all the time. He has so much courage to get on the ball and play and I think he will fit in really, really well with all the other players.”

After a disappointing season last season Rodgers is looking to revive Liverpool’s fortunes. Clint Dempsey, Adam Johnson, Nuri Sahin and Theo Walcott are all rumoured to still be on the Northern Irishman’s shopping list.

It will be interesting to see if it makes the difference for a Liverpool side that found creating chances difficult last season.

Joe Allen's signing is just like tightening another screw in Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool playing machine. People who talk ill of this acquisition are just running scared about how well Joe Allen will perform! I for one am very happy that Brendan has been able to deliver what he has promised to do. There is still time to get another one or two more players before the transfer window closes at the end of August!
