Jose Mourinho wants to retire ‘Special One’ in favour of a new name. Any guesses?
The Special One is bored of that moniker and has decided he deserves a new, even more impressive handle. Any guesses?
We like Jose Mourinho here in JOE Towers. Yes he can be a terrible loser and he will defend some appalling actions by his players but he is a gift for the media. And, lest we forget, he’s a pretty handy football manager too, with titles to his name in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, as well as winning the Champions League with two clubs, Inter Milan and Porto.
Because of that fairly impressive CV, Jose fancies a new nickname. “Like me or not, I am the only one who won the world’s three most important leagues. So, maybe instead of the ‘Special One’, people should start calling me the ‘Only One’,” Mourinho said in an interview on Portuguese TV yesterday.
Will it catch on? We doubt it as the Special One is just too deeply embedded in our minds now. But if he wins the Champions League with Real Madrid this year, then he will need a new name as Special just won’t cover it if he becomes the first manager to win the European Cup at three different clubs.
