Liverpool to sign... Jimmy McGuinness?

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with a number of different transfer targets since taking the Liverpool hotseat, but one we didn’t see was Donegal manager Jimmy McGuinness.

In news that has come a little left-field, Donegal chairman PJ McGowan has moved to address the rumours that the sports psychologist may be about to join the Liverpool backroom team.

“This is total news to me. We have already talked to Jim about plans for what he intends to do over the winter months and next year,” he said in today’s Irish Times.

McGuinness holds an MSc in Sports Psychology and gives lectures on the area to both sporting and non-sporting organisations. He is believed to have links with Antrim native Rodgers, but McGowan has moved to pour cold water on the idea immediately.

“Jim was appointed for four years and he has only done two,” said McGowan. “He wanted four years himself and that’s what we agreed to."

After such a ropey start to the season and a defeat to Udinese last night at Anfield, we’re sure Liverpool fans would love to see Jimmy winning matches on Merseyside.
