Looks like the end of the Long/Cox partnership at West Brom
Football’s most hilarious front two will still team up for Ireland but one of them, Simon Cox, looks to be leaving Shane Long behind at West Brom.
They may have rarely figured in the same team for club or country but the front two of Shane Long and Simon Cox has always amused us. Hell, it even inspired one of the best flags at Euro 2012.
And while us lucky Irish fans will still be able to have an immature snigger at the duo, fans at their club West Brom may not be so blessed.
According to reports today, Cox is a target for Swansea, who are looking to continue the huge strides they made last year under Brendan Rodgers. With the Irish man now at the helm of Liverpool, new Swans boss Michael Laudrup reportedly sees Cox as part of his plans.
Over the weekend, West Brom boss Steve Clarke confirmed that a bid by Blackburn for Cox had been rejected. With the news that another Irish striker, Leon Best, faces six months on the sidelines through injury, Blackburn may be tempted to try again.
At 25, a move for Cox may not be a bad idea as we think he is a useful enough player. With Long definitely staying at the Hawthorns, and with Peter Odemwingie also ahead of Cox in the pecking order, a move to Swansea could be ideal, and certainly better than dropping down a level to the Championship.
