Mancini says Tevez could play for City again after all
With every other potential destination for Carlos Tevez seemingly ruled out, Roberto Mancini has said that the Argentine could in fact play for Manchester City again.
Tevez has been in Argentina in recent months, having decamped to his native land after being afforded leper-like status at City for reasons we hardly need to go into once again.
The 27-year old had been expected to move on during the January transfer window, but after moves to both Milan clubs and PSG went down the toilet, he may have little option but to return to the north-west of England.
Tevez hasn’t given any indication of when he might return and he doesn’t seem in any particular hurry, but if he is to avoid a repeat of the massive fine imposed on him for going AWOL in the first place, it could be in his best interests to return sooner rather than later.
Mancini had previously said that Tevez was ‘finished’ at City, but seems to have changed tune somewhat. Asked about the diminutive and hard-to-handle striker, Mancini said: "If he comes back - and he is fit - it is possible (he might be picked again).
"Carlos is not an option at the moment but it is possible in the future if he comes back," he added.
"I hope for him he has been training in the last three months to help his condition.
Playing golf and an impending appearance in a testimonial match for Martin Palermo is about the height of Tevez’s physical activity of late, but with City going through something of a bumpy patch at the moment, who knows; maybe he could return to be the most unlikely of heroes before the season’s end.
Unlikely and all as that scenario is, if it did happen, we’d still probably have to go through the sorry transfer saga in the summer once again.
