Mark Noble: I’ll make a decision on playing for Ireland over the next couple of weeks

Mark Noble, speaking on Goals on Sunday, has not ruled out declaring for the Republic of Ireland.

The 27-year-old West Ham midfielder admitted he was disappointed not to be called up by Roy Hodgson for the upcoming England internationals, having captained the under-21s in the past, and says that he'll consider his position over the next couple of weeks. "With the players retired - Gerrard and Lampard - you think you're going to get a chance. I'm sure Jack Colback and Fabian Delph (who were called up) thought the same thing, though," he told Chris Kamara. "My nan and grandad are full Irish. But I've captained the England under-21s but I'm still young. I'm just going to think about things, but to be honest I haven't thought about. I tried to concentrate on the game yesterday and I was disappointed not to be called up for England." Noble said that he hadn't spoken to Martin O'Neill personally but that his agent had been in touch with the Ireland manager. "I'd find it strange to pull on the green jersey because I've captained the England under-21s but you never know, football is a strange game, and I'll make a decision over the next couple of weeks."
