"New signing" promised at Manchester City's Limerick friendly

13/07/2012 4:36 pm

Manchester City are coming to Thomond Park next month to take on Pat Scully's Limerick FC and according to the organiser, they're bringing a new signing.

A sellout crowd is expected at the Limerick venue for the tie, which was announced today, between a full strength Manchester City and the Airtricity League First Division side.

The game was sanctioned by the FAI in a legally binding agreement for Limerick to host a number of top European sides over the next ten years.

The first such game between Limerick FC and the Premier League will take place on Sunday night, August 5, with all proceeds going back to the Irish club's football project.

What has caught our eye, however, is that according to Goal.com, the organiser of the event - Damien O'Brien of Iconic Worldwide Events - is promising that the club will be bringing Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez for the clash along with a "new signing".

Will that signing be Arsenal captain Robin van Persie or perhaps another of the club's summer targets, such as Atletico Bilbao's Javi Martinez or perhaps even Liverpool's Martin Škrtel?

If star man Sergio Aguero has his way, it'll be Van Persie, as the striker mentioned the Dutchman by name when asked who were the top three strikers in the world on the club's official website today.

"Messi, Messi and Messi," Aguero initially repied to the fan question. "Van Persie, and if I have to choose another, [Cristiano] Ronaldo.
