Eric Cantona was once the elegant on the pitch, stylish off the pitch, King of Old Trafford.

Since retiring Cantona has worked on many projects including his movie career which featured the critically acclaimed Looking for Eric by Ken Loach, promoting the Euromillions lottery in Irish advertisements, coaching the French beach football team and becoming the sporting director of the resurrected-from-the-dead New York Cosmos.

Recently he has taken a hiatus from all those project and it looks to have affected his formerly svelte physique.

Cantona who is now 46 was photographed on holiday in Corsica with family and friends, the former Man United skipper sailing sporting a castaway-style beard and belly of a bon-vivant.

The picture prompted one of his successors as captain of Man United Gary Neville to tweet this:

In fairness to Cantona he was one of the most stylish players on the pitch that the Premier League witness during the nineties, he’s definitely entitles to let it hang a little loose now.
