Redknapp bids ‘Arryvederci to Spurs

Speculation last night suggested as much and at an ungodly hour this morning, Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that Harry Redknapp has parted company with the club.

Widespread rumours spread last night about Redknapp’s impending departure from White Hart Lane and it was confirmed in a statement on the club’s website at 3.37am this morning, with the wording suggesting that Harry was pushed out the door rather than leaving of his own accord.

The statement read: “The Club can today announce that Harry Redknapp will be leaving his post as manager.”

Chairman Daniel Levy commented: "This is not a decision the Board and I have taken lightly. Harry arrived at the Club at a time when his experience and approach was exactly what was needed. This decision in no way detracts from the excellent work Harry has done during his time with the Club and I should like to thank him for his achievements and contribution. Harry will always be welcome at the Lane."

Redknapp added: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Spurs and am proud of my achievements. I have had a fantastic four years with the Club, at times the football has been breathtaking. I am sad to be leaving but wish to thank the players, staff and fans for their terrific support during my time there."

Redknapp had a year left on his contract and had previously expressed his desire to stay, but he failed to reach an agreement with Daniel Levy and will now be given a severance package to compensate for the remaining time on his contract.

It’s all gone horribly wrong for Redknapp since he emerged on the right side of a court case investigating alleged corruption and tax evasion earlier this year. At that stage he looked a shoo-in to succeed England manager after Fabio Capello’s departure and his Spurs side were riding high at the top end of the Premier League.

Spurs subsequently missed out on a place in the Champions League after Chelsea’s victory over Bayern Munich and now Redknapp will be on the lookout for a new job and various Sky Sports News reporters will be looking for a new car window to be rolled down at the exit to Tottenham’s training ground.

Early reports suggest that the car window in question could belong to David Moyes, who has been touted as the early favourite to succeed Redknapp at White Hart Lane.
