It is little wonder that the intelligence of footballers is brought into question when you see what Newcastle United’s Sammy Ameobi fell for yesterday.

Often, and in some cases unfairly, players are depicted as not being the brightest crayons in the box and this story will only add fuel to that particular fire.
Yahoo! Sports concocted a highly fictitious story involving Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovich in light of David Beckham’s decision to donate his PSG salary to a children’s charity in Paris.
Given the reputation Zlaten has acquired, they played on the Beckham charity story by fabricating quotes from the talented, yet controversial, Swedish and fellow PSG player.
The lines used were utterly ridiculous and said that Zlatan was urging the children of Paris to donate money to him, with the term ‘Zlaritable donation’ thrown in for good measure.
Unfortunately poor old Sammy mistook this to be the gospel truth, as his Tweet last night proved.

He does pose the question as to whether it is real or else just a joke, but the fact he even asked this is a little concerning.
