So a ruptured testicle is actually more painful than it sounds
We already felt sorry for Scott Dann after he ruptured his testicle earlier this season, but our sympathy increased tenfold after learning that perhaps the most unfortunate injury possible is actually more painful than it sounds.
More painful than it sounds? Could anything possibly be more painful than a ruptured testicle as it is?
We thought that getting a whack of a football in the ear on a freezing cold day was as bad as it gets until we heard of Scott Dann’s misfortune and were just surprised that his manager Steve Kean was prepared to go into so much detail about it in public rather than pass it off as a particularly bad groin strain.
Dann actually played on after sustaining the injury in the 2-1 defeat to West Brom back in December, an injury that was initially passed off as internal bleeding until the player himself realised the extent of his problem and was rushed to hospital later that evening.
Dann is due to return for Rovers this weekend and prior to his return he lifted the lid on his injury, which may make readers of a more sensitive disposition a little squeamish.
“Our physio, Dave Fevre, is very experienced and he's never seen an injury like it before,” Dann is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
“And it's even more painful than it sounds. It was not a pretty sight.
“I overstretched and clashed with the goalkeeper, Ben Foster. I was in severe pain and couldn't run, but I was determined to carry on, despite knowing that something was badly wrong.”
It took balls for Dann to throw himself into the challenge in the first place and although he scored in the process of sustaining the injury, we’re not sure will he have deemed it worth the excruciating pain he suffered subsequently. Ouch.
