Wigan may have been on the end of their customary beating at the hands of Man United yesterday, but they didn’t come away from the encounter completely empty handed.
With Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez both scoring braces at the DW, Danny Welbeck coming off the bench and Wayne Rooney not far away from a return from injury, it’s clear that the Red Devils are in rude health in the striking department at the moment, so much so that Alex Ferguson is prepared to let another of his forwards join the Latics on loan for the rest of the season.
United fans haven’t seen an awful lot of Angelo Henriquez since his arrival from Universidad de Chile in August, but the Chilean, who turns 19 in April, was always seen as one for the future and the loan spell at Wigan will be seen as the next step in his development at Old Trafford.
Wigan boss Roberto Martinez is certainly enthused about his arrival, telling the club website: "We're really excited about Angelo because he is a very young man with a huge potential; he's a goalscorer with clever movement inside the box and has had a very successful time with his former club Universidad.
"We hope to have a good partnership in terms of allowing Angelo to develop as a footballer and learn of the demands of the English game, because I feel he can bring us something different in the forward line.
"I'm sure the fans will give him a great welcome on Saturday and it will provide him with the perfect opportunity to begin his experiences on the pitch in English football which is very exciting."
The player himself added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I am really excited after the manager has given this chance for me to prove myself. Now I need to work to try and earn my place in the team."
Like most South Americans arriving in Europe, Henriquez has already been the subject of an obligatory YouTube tribute video, but for a more recent example of what he’s capable of, have a look at his first appearance and first goal for United’s under-21 side earlier this season below.
