St.Ledger injury to cause Trap headaches

Giovanni Trapattoni is facing a difficult few weeks ahead as he looks to begin life after the Euros.

During the week we brought you news that Ireland’s inspiration central defender Richard Dunne is out of Ireland’s first World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan with a groin strain if he decides to continue his international career.

The news got worse today as it was reported in the Irish Sun from Leicester City that Dunne’s regular centre-half partner and the sole goalscorer for the Boys in Green at the European Championships Sean St. Ledger is more than likely out for the match too.

If that is the case it leaves Trapattoni with a defensive conundrum and he may have to call on Darren O’Dea who recently departed to join Toronto FC.

The injury was picked up when the Foxes faced Burton Albion in a preseason friendly during the week.

Foxes boss Nigel Pearson has said that St. Ledger won’t make Ireland’s friendly on Wednesday.

There are also fears he could have sustained ligament damage which could rule him out of the game against Kazakhstan on September 7.

Pearson said that St. Ledger may be out for longer than he would hope, “It’s probably not going to be as short as we’d like it to be, but we’ll cope.”
