Walcott to sign for feeder club Man City, Spurs spending their Modric deal, Man Utd letting go of Nani and Berbatov and Bendtner to solve AC Milan problems.
By Declan Whooley
With just three days to go in the transfer window things are heating up as managers look to finalise their squad before the next window in January.
Arsenal supporters have grown accustomed to their world-class players departing for pastures new. At this stage they have few players left that would fall into that category. Theo Walcott certainly isn’t remotely close to that description, but is another first-team player linked with a move away from The Emirates.
The Sun believe that the Gunners will continue to be a Manchester City feeding club with a €15 million bid for the inconsistent wide player. Roberto Mancini is concerned with the lack of activity in the transfer window and this would appear to have all the hallmarks of deadline panic.
Walcott would essentially be replacing Adam Johnson in the squad and was linked to a move to Liverpool last week as he enters the final year of his contract. Arsenal want the 23 year-old to sign a contract extension within the next 48 hours.
Speaking of infuriating inconsistency, Manchester United winger Nani could be on his way to Russia in a £22 million deal. He, and more likely his agent, are worried about his future at Old Trafford and Zenit St.Petersburg are thought to be willing to stump up the cash.
Forgotton man Count Dracula…sorry, Dimitar Berbatov may also finally end his underwhelming career at Old Trafford. Fiorentina are said to be willing to pay the required £5 million to bring the Bulgarian to Italy.
The first portion of the Luka Modric transfer fee seems to be on its way to Craven Cottage. Tottenham had been expected to trigger Moussa Dembele’s £15 million buy-out clause, and he is expected to go for a medical today. According to the Irish Daily Star, they are going to invest immediately with an undisclosed fee agreed with Sunderland for full-back Kieran Richardson.
Kevin Doyle appears to be on Paul Lambert’s radar after Aston Villa had a £5 million bid for Genk striker Christian Benteke turned down. Doyle has been the subject to three unsuccessful bids from Everton and Wolves are holding out for a fee in the region of £10 million for the Irish international.
AC Milan have been scouting Europe for a replacement for the talismatic Zlatan Ibrahimovic and according to the The Daily Mirror, Arsenal’s Nicklas Bendtner is the chosen one. The Italian giants will have to part with £5 million to make the deal happen.
Tony Pulis is thought to be considering a late move for Liverpool’s Charlie Adam. The man with a cultured left foot and an eye for Gareth Bale is keen to stay at Anfield but his days appear to be numbered under Brendan Rodgers. Jay Spearing could follow him out the exit door with The Sun believing Bolton are lining up a £3 million offer.
In an unusual turn of events all the papers are carrying the story (so it must be true) that Didier Drogba’s career in China is in doubt after club chairman Zhu Jun threatened to cut back investment. This could spell the end for the ex-Chelsea man, along with Nicolas Anelka, and Premier League clubs have been put on alert.
