Luis Suarez admits he wouldn’t mind a move to Spain while the Gareth Bale chase is just getting silly now.
While we were all absorbed in the Ireland game at Wembley an interview Luis Suarez gave to a Uruguayan radio station became the biggest story in world football. Speaking to Radio sport 890 he said: "It would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid."
In fairness to the Liverpool striker, everyone footballer in the world, bar the Barcelona first XI, would find it difficult to say no to Real Madrid but that sound bite has set off the rumour mill spinning so fast the earth may rotate off its axis.
Added to that, Suarez also had a pop at the English press, saying he was "not prepared to continue suffering at the hands of the English journalists". That should be well received on Fleet Street. Anyway, expect denials of any move from Anfield, mild expressions of interest from Madrid, and this story to run and run now.
Elsewhere the other big transfer story of the morning, and probably of the summer, is Gareth Bale. Earlier this week Real Madrid were leading the race but today the Daily Mirror make the extraordinary claim that Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are all prepared to pay £80million for the Welshman. As are Real Madrid. And PSG. Daniel Levy must be licking his lips…
Away from these two, the newest name to appear on the summer transfer block is Cesc Fabregas. After a spell at the Catalan club that brought a few medals but sporadic playing time, he is now being lined up for a return to the Premier League. Former club Arsenal are understood to have first refusal on the midfielder, but David Moyes is also sniffing around, eager to dip into his new, much healthier, bank balance at Old Trafford. Around £30m seems to be the fee, according to the Mirror. The Daily Mail also reckon that Man City will join the race.
In less juicy news, Harry Redknapp is still chasing after Richard Dunne like a lovelorn teenager (Daily Star), Raa Benitez wants to bring David Luiz to Napoli (Express) and QPR keeper Julio Cesar could be minding the nets for Arsenal next season (Mirror).
Now, go out and consider if you would like to move to Madrid… yeah, we thought so
