Video: Alex Song tried to steal the limelight during La Liga trophy presentation

Alex Song had a touch of the John Terry’s last night when he tried to take the limelight during the on-field presentation of the La Liga trophy.

Barca saw off Valladolid 2-1 at the Nou Camp to claim the trophy with two games left to play, not a bad achievement considering they have been written off by many based on their disappointing Champions League campaign and in particular the thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich.

Carles Puyol accepted the trophy in the pitch, but rather than hold it aloft, he showed real class by walking over to manager Tito Vilanova and Eric Abidal, two men who have had their fair share of health issues, and handed them the trophy.

Unfortunately Alex Song didn’t read the script and for some reason thought his club captain was handing him the sizeable trophy to him before quickly coming to his senses.

“We won the league, but the most important thing is that Eric and Tito are with us,” said Puyol, before adding the traditional battle cry of “Long live Barca! And long live Catalonia!”

Song seemed genuinely set to take the silverware before realising it was Abidal that was stepping forward. Perhaps being at Arsenal so long has meant he is over-eager to get his hands on a trophy.
