Video evidence of what Man United fans can expect from their new striker (No, not RVP)
It’s news that has been lost amidst all the hullaballoo over a certain Dutchman, but Manchester United actually signed another striker this week.
The capture of 18-year old Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez was confirmed by his club Universidad de Chile yesterday, with Henriquez set to complete his move next week.
"Angelo Henriquez will join Manchester United this month," read a statement from Universidad de Chile, who won the Copa Sudamericana, or South America's equivalent of the Europa League, in 2011.
“The player is physically and mentally prepared to take this determining step in his career."
"Manchester United's representatives told us that it was fundamental for them to take him now," said club President Jose Yuraszcek.
Henriquez, who had also attracted interest from Manchester City (not the first time they’ve lost out to United in a transfer race in recent weeks, eh?), will cost the Red Devils around £3.5 million, but he mightn’t see first team action for a while given the fierce competition provided by Messrs Van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck at Old Trafford.
Still, he’s highly rated in his homeland and has done enough in his brief career to date to earn a YouTube highlight reel in his honour (see above).
On that evidence he looks pretty decent, but then again, even Bebe managed to look good on YouTube so United fans may want to treat Henriquez’s arrival with cautious optimism until he’s had a chance to prove himself.
