Jone Samuelsen of Norwegian side Odd Grenland achieved the quite remarkable feat of scoring a header from his own half against Tromso last night.
Scoring from the beyond the halfway line is something of a rare occurrence and has been pulled off by the likes of David Beckham, Xabi Alonso and Nayim over the years, but none of those more recognisable players can claim to have scored with a header from their own half; indeed it is something that is never, ever likely to happen again.
With Tromso attempting to claw back a late equaliser, they went for broke and sent their ‘keeper up the pitch to try and cause mayhem in the Grenland penalty area.
With only two Tromso players back defending, a Grenland defender hoofed the ball clear and when it was headed back towards the Grenland goal by a retreating Tromso player, Samuelsen met it head on and directed it towards the opposite goal, where it crept in to ensure a 3-1 win for his side.
There's a good chance you'll never hear about, or have any interest in the fortunes of Odd Grenland again, but Samuelsen has ensured that at the very least, he'll be a YouTube hit for years to come.
