We can forgive you if the name Dominique Niederhauser doesn’t register on your sporting brain. Prior to yesterday we would have said the name sounded more like a female German politician than a footballer.

How wrong we were. Step forward the goalkeeper for Swiss amateur side Dardania Lausanne, who scored one of the most spectacular goals ever seen from a shot-stopper.

The club, which was originally founded by the local Albanian community and boasts current Lazio midfielder and former Sunderland player Lorik Cana as it's most famous past player, has now shot to prominence due to some sharp-shooting from a quick-thinking netminder.

Normally a 6-1 victory over Genolier-Begnins in the Swiss amateur league would not have us on the edge of our seats but Niederhauser scored an 80-yard half-volleyed lob that had his opposite number a little red-faced.

Niederhauser doesn’t strike us as a man that pays to much heed to the fitness and conditioning side of the game and why should he with such an eye for goal.

Hat-tip to 101 Great Goals for bringing the goal to a global audience and reminding all us amateurs that every dog has its day in the sun.
