Video: So this is what Man United fans can look forward to from Nick Powell next season
Manchester United yesterday wrapped up the signing of 18-year old Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra and from the evidence to date, the boy’s a bit special.
The Red Devils had reportedly been tracking Powell for yonks and beat off competition from a host of other clubs for his signature. Powell is United’s second signing of the summer so far following the arrival of Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund and both should help add some much needed creativity to United’s midfield.
Commenting on his signature, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: “We have scouted Nick for months now. He is an exceptional talent and has been schooled well at Crewe. I’m delighted he has chosen to come to United. He has a lot to offer and we are all looking forward to working with him."
Powell added: “It really is a dream come true to be signing for Manchester United. I have had a great time at Crewe and I would like to thank them for helping me to develop as a player over the past 13 years.
“I’m excited about continuing my development with Sir Alex and the world-class players in the squad. The thought of making the step up to the Premier League next season is an exciting prospect. I can’t wait to get started.”
Many of you may be familiar with the spectacular goal Powell scored for Crewe in the League Two Play-Off Final against Cheltenham last month, but it was far from the only positive contribution he made for the Railwaymen last season.
While we have often warned about the perils of judging footballers by their YouTube videos (Bebe, anyone?), Manchester United fans should enjoy watching the video above.
