We bet that Andrea Masiello regrets the day he deliberately turned  the ball into his own net while playing for Bari against Lecce in 2011. A 22-month prison sentence will bring on that feeling.

Granted, the prison sentence is suspended but it’s still a pretty serious punishment for what was a pretty serious offence after Masiello admitted deliberately scoring an own goal during Bari’s clash against Lecce in May of last year.

Lecce avoided relegation as a result and because he ‘fessed up the 26-year old avoided jail, but Lecce got demoted and Bari had to begin their 2011-2012 Serie B campaign with a seven-point penalty after a sequence of suspicious results. Corruption in Italian football? Hardly...

Masiello currently has no club and there mightn’t be too many offers for him after this development.

He’s admitted it since so there’s no doubt that the controversial goal was deliberate, but have a look at the video above and decide for yourself whether he did a good or a shoddy job of trying to disguise it. For us, it's the latter option.
