Video: Why was Napoli's goalkeeper so upset at seeing his side score?
Speculation over matchfixing has once again reared its ugly head in Italy after footage emerged of Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis becoming extremely frustrated after his side scored a goal.
The footage, released today and embedded above, stems from a 4-2 Napoli victory over Lecce in Serie A on December 3 and shows the reaction of shot-stopper Morgan De Sanctis after his side take a 4-1 lead in the 82nd minute through striker Edinson Cavani.
Rather than leaping for joy or raising a fist in triumph, De Sanctis instead turns to face his own goal and shakes his head in frustration. The camera then swoops to Napoli striker Cristiano Lucarelli on the sideline, who tells the goalkeeper that there are "7-8 minutes" remaining in the game.
The puzzling clip has befuddled numerous Serie A fans this afternoon, some of whom claim that the clip is proof that De Sanctis had perhaps bet against his own side or attempted to influence the result somewhat towards Lecce.
Numerous websites are also questioning why Lucarelli was allowed behind the goalposts instead of the sub's bench, when he clearly was not warming up. Another source of intrigue is the unnamed hooded figure beside Lucarelli, who is neither a ball boy or sports photographer.
Either way, it's an extremely curious reaction on the part of De Sanctis, and won't do Serie A's reputation any favours.
