Unfortunately for Newcastle the goal was chalked off for offside but my word, what a strike.

Cheick Tiote doesn’t hit the net very often but when he does they tend to be absolute screamers. His only goal for Newcastle so far was the spectacular equalising volley in the 4-4 draw with Arsenal three seasons ago, but he nearly topped it with a scorching half-volley off his left foot against Manchester City today. Tiote, along with the Newcastle fans and manager Alan Pardew, was sure that his goal had levelled matters after Edin Dzeko’s opening strike, but after consulting with his linesman, the referee ruled it out for offside on the basis that Yoann Gouffran was impeding Joe Hart’s view, even if he would have done amazingly well to reach it if there was nobody in the way. It certainly looked a harsh decision to us, but do you think the goal should have stood? Feel free to let us know in the comments box below. Vine via Football Tweet Hat-tip: Squawka Football
