Wayne Rooney draws Twitter ire for mocking Manchester City's Toure brothers' final defeat
As football fans watched Zambia's incredible penalty shootout victory over the Ivory Coast, one Premier League star was otherwise occupied - but still had enough to say on the matter.
After some of the best struck penalties we've ever seen in international football, Zambia emerged last night as African Cup of Nations winners over the hotly-tipped Ivory Coast, a side with Premier League stars such as Didier Drogba, Gervinho (who missed the final penalty) and of course, Manchester City's Toure brothers, Yaya and Kolo.
One man glued to the TV last night was Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley, who tweeted his 312,000+ followers: "Congrats to zambia great story! Bin one of the most eventful weeks in football I can remember!"
The 'story' which Cleverely alluded to is that Zambia won the tournament held in Gabon 19 years after much of the country's side perished in a plane crash. Nearly twenty years later, the country has made the site of the greatest tragedy the site of their greatest triumph, as this year's African Cup of Nations were once again held in Gabon.
However, this was lost on Manchester United's two-goal hero in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool last Saturday, Wayne Rooney. The striker had instead been watching golf but saw fit to mock what he deemed to have been the pointless efforts of Manchester rivals Yaya and Kolo Toure. See below:

The tweet itself received a torrent of criticism from non-Manchester United fans on the micro-blogging site, with The Times writer Rory Smith pointedly tweeting: "That Toure tweet is pretty unsporting, unpleasant and ungracious of Wayne Rooney. And with all his experience of international finals, too."
True enough - perhaps Rooney could afford to be a little more flippant once he takes his country to an international tournament final first - or is nice enough to be eligible to play in all three group stage games in the next one after Euro 2012 at least.

As an Englishman I am ashamed to call him my fellow countryman, Yaya Toure is ten times a football player than Rooney and when we win the Title we will all take much delight in Wayne Rooney's distress.
Evertonian mercenary who turned his back on Everton for the love of Money and a United shirt already drowned in glory, he will never be making much significant history because their history were already present.
Always banging on about their history though they played no part in it what so ever.
one more thing: your entire post is a bunch of s.
Played no part in the history? He's 97 goals short of being united's top goal scorer of all time, won the champions league and a bunch of domestic titles. What are you talking about, Jason?
