West Ham has been chosen as the club to move into the Olympic Stadium in east London after the 2012 Games.
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) sided for the Hammers over rivals Tottenham this afternoon and a decision must now be ratified by two government departments and the mayor of London, possibly next week.
The vote in favour of West Ham's bid, which was judged to provide the best legacy, was unanimous.
“This is the right decision for Londoners,” said former Mayor Ken Livingstone.
Spurs’ bid involved a plan involved knocking down the stadium and building a new one after the Games, one which was strongly criticised.
West Ham's plan, by contrast, will keep athletics in east London and leave the running track untouched.
