Are Liverpool lining up a cheeky last-minute Tevez offer?
Though Liverpool have categorically denied any attempt to swap misfiring striker Andy Carroll for Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez, reports this morning suggest that the Reds are still interested in the Argentine.
According to the Daily Mirror, which first broke news of the apparent swap offer yesterday morning, the Reds are set to challenge City’s resolve by making a cheeky loan offer for the unsettled striker.
The tabloid claim that Liverpool have ‘joined the queue of interested parties who would take Tevez on loan’, though that queue may have considerably shortened due to recent events surrounding rival parties AC Milan and PSG.
After a final take-it-or-leave-it loan offer on Friday night for the Argentine, Serie A champions Milan seemingly cut their losses on the 27-year-old and instead signed his compatriot, former Catania striker Maxi Lopez, on loan instead.
Similarly, PSG publicly ended their interest last week in the striker despite what sporting director Leonardo described as a “beautiful” offer. Tevez’s adviser Kia Joorabchian has stated, however, that he believes the Ligue 1 leaders will come in for his client in the summer instead.
While Joorabchian has no issues with pushing the Tevez saga into the summer, the Mirror understands that the player’s fate will be decided tomorrow at midnight for the close of the January transfer window.
The newspaper further states that relations between Tevez and his club are now so poor that they may block the player's desired move to Milan and accept a Liverpool offer instead. Either way, we’ll find out tomorrow for what is sure to be a customarily crazy transfer deadline day.
