Arsenal close in on Borussia Dortmund youngster

31/01/2012 7:27 am

Arsenal look set to finally splash a little cash in the closing hours of the January transfer window, yet Arsene Wenger is not seeking to sign a full-back or forward.

Instead, the Gunners are closing in on a deal for a highly promising Borussia Dortmund youngster. No, we're not talking about the currently injured and €35m+ rated Mario Goetze, rather the club have completed talks over the £400,000 signing of the German champions' 19-year-old playmaker Thomas Eisfeld.

Eisfeld is part of Dortmund's hugely touted youth academy but has had difficulty breaking into the club's first team due to recurring knee problems. However, the player has been the top scorer for Dortmund's Under-19 side this season, having hit six goals in 12 games in midfield.

In typical Arsenal style, Eisner won't break the bank, as he is out of contract this summer, with the fee of £400,000 required as a compensation fee.

Having met with the 19-year-old German and his agent Reza Fazeli yesterday and held talks, Eisfeld will need to pass a stringent medical at Arsenal before we see him holding aloft a red-and-white jersey later on today.
