Robbie Keane completes West Ham loan move

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Irish captain Robbie Keane on loan until the end of season.

The 30-year old has been heavily linked with a move to Upton Park since a proposed move to Birmingham City broke down earlier in the transfer window.

Keane completed a medical at the club earlier today and Hammers chairman David Gold confirmed the move after West Ham’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

"We're delighted to sign a world-class striker,” Gold told the BBC.

"Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy drives a hard bargain but we've got our man."

Keane will join West Ham on loan until the end of the season and will hope to help the Hammers avoid relegation as Avram Grant’s side are currently bottom of the Premier League table.

Keane has hardly featured for Spurs this season after falling behind Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Rafael van der Vaart in the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Keane becomes West Ham’s fourth signing of the transfer window after the arrivals of Wayne Bridge, Gary O’Neil and Demba Ba at the club and could make his debut against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Wednesday night.

It has also emerged that the Hammers turned down a bid from Tottenham for influential midfielder Scott Parker. West Ham are desperate to hold on to their captain as they attempt to beat the drop and are believed to have rejected a bid in excess of €11.7 million for the 30-year old.
