Video: Why did a 'Ryanair protestor' handcuff himself to a goalpost last night?

The biggest shock of us last night was not that it took Darron Gibson of all people to silence Manchester City, but that one fan managed to silence Goodison Park with a bizarre protest.

Shortly before the end of the first half in last night's 1-0 Everton victory over Roberto Mancini's league leaders, a spectator ran onto the pitch and handcuffed himself to the left post of Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart. The game was delayed for four-and-a-half minutes until police arrived with bolt cutters.

Although the identity of the fan is as yet unknown, it was not - as was originally speculated - professional ruiner of sports spectacles 'Jimmy Jump', but rather a fan who decided to protest against budget airline Ryanair. The protestor was wearing a t-shirt that read: 'Europe's Greatest Training Robbers - Ryanair. Lowest Wages: Guaranteed.'

Apparently, the protestor decided to take action against the airline's recruiting policies after Ryanair refused to offer a job to his daughter. Truly bizarre stuff...

Have a look at the clip above, especially since it's likely to be a future task posed to for one A Question of Sport team in the "What Happened Next?" section of the BBC quiz show.

As for Gibson, the Irish international's winning goal was treated as a final parting gift from his former Manchester United teammates following last month's transfer, with Wayne Rooney tweeting simply: "Yeeeeeessssssss gibbo. Love u kid."
