Agreement from Liverpool for Torres to head to Chelsea

01/02/2011 12:31 am

With just a few hours to go before the transfer window closes, Liverpool have agreed that Fernando Torres can go to Chelsea.

A statement on the club's website read: "Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that they have agreed a fee with Chelsea for the sale Fernando Torres. The player has now been given permission to talk with the London club."

Torres issued a transfer request to the club last week after growing frustrated at the club’s poor season and their inability to challenge for major honours.

He has cut a frustrated figure at times this season and struggled badly for form with the Reds, although he had looked a different player since Kenny Dalglish took over as manager earlier this month.

Despite indicating that he was willing to stay at Liverpool earlier this month, Torres changed his mind in the wake of interest from Chelsea, who he has always performed well against and who have attempted to buy the Spaniard on a number of occasions in the past.

After protracted negotiations, Torres finally travelled to London to undergo a medical on Monday evening to complete a medical and discuss personal terms over a transfer that will cost Chelsea in the region of £50 million (€58.4 million.
