Footballing ads tend to poor in the extreme and Jose Mourinho (sort of) and Fernando Torres star in two of the latest efforts from IKEA and Samsung.

Nine times out of ten footballing ads tend to be horrendous, with Man Utd particular culprits. Think their red wine ads, AON Insurance – Michael Owen’s longest stint in a United jersey – and even the Chevrolet ad with Liverpool last month are some of the many advertisements that should be confined to history or else the comedy section.
We have one definite addition from Samsung, while IKEA’s effort with The Special One is somewhat better, which wouldn’t be too difficult.
The Chelsea striker stars for Samsung, and what do the club sponsors want the Spanish striker to do? Bake cupcakes, that’s what. While it seems to all football supporters that Torres can’t stand the heat, maybe he is trying to get his confidence back in the kitchen.
It could give rise to the chant “He bakes when he wants, he bakes when he wants…”. Or maybe not.
While all of Spain seems to be getting a dig in at Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, IKEA have also decided to get in on the act. The Scandinavian company hired a Jose look-a-like and have him doing a series of mundane household activities, before his housekeeper is seen hurting The Special One by wearing a Barca jersey with you-know-who’s name on the back.
Cries of Flatpack Mourinho and IKEA’s not so special now rang around the office on first viewing of this one.
As we said, these ads are nothing if not consistent. On the cringe scale of things, we think Samsung have the edge, but let us know what you think.
