You’d think one crazy goal from inside your own half was quite enough for your first season, right? Well not Real Sociedad’s rising star Inigo Martinez, who bettered his effort from earlier this year with this stunning late winner against Real Betis on Sunday.
Martinez has become a bit of a favourite in JOE Towers over the past few months – not only did the 21-year-old whack a low-trajectory long-range rocket to the net against loathed neighbours Athletic Bilbao in October, but he also grabbed our attention by scoring perhaps the most spectacular own goal we’ve ever seen for the Spain U21s.
If that brought him some possibly unwanted attention, he was in the spotlight for all the right reasons again on Sunday afternoon with this spectacular 90th minute winner for Sociedad against Betis.
Inside your own half and stuck out on the left wing, with time ticking down, it takes a particular breed of confidence to go for goal – and the fact that it kissed the crossbar on the way in just makes it all the more perfect.
Anyway, this one featured at the top of our weekend goals round-up this morning, but given Martinez’s potted history of crazy goals this season, we felt this one deserved a piece all of its own.
Enjoy.
