Move over Han, we have a new favourite Solo. Hope Solo, the US Women’s soccer team keeper has just made the save of the year.

She may not be that well known over here but US Women’s Soccer keeper Hope Solo is a pretty big star Stateside. The sport is a big deal over there and being easy on the eye has helped Solo become probably a bigger star in the US than Landon Donovan.

But she’s not just a pretty face, as she proves here. Goalkeepers in women’s soccer get a lot of grief but this save by Solo against Canada early on Saturday morning our time is the best save we have seen in a long time and we have watched lot of football lately.

A long-range effort looked to be an easy save for the 30-year-old but a defelction sends the ball in the opposite direction. Solo changes direction, dives full length to stop the ball and then gets up to deny the second attempt bravely.

It’s top-class keeping and as the US won 2-1, a vital stop too. Hats off Hope, even if we are not convinced the second shot didn’t just sneak over the line.
