Video: All the goals from the frankly nuts Reading-Arsenal game tonight
Reading raced into a 4-0 lead against Arsenal in the Capital One Cup tonight before an epic fightback by the Gunners.
After a dismal defeat to Norwich, and a very flukey win over QPR, the mood amongst Arsenal fans heading into tonight’s Capital One Cup tie with Reading was not good to say the least.
So you can imagine what the mood was like as Reading went into a 4-0 lead after 37 minutes. Jason Roberts, Mikele Leigertwood, a Laurent Koscielny OG and Noel Hunt nabbed the goals and Arsenal looked to be on their way out of a competition they probably wouldn’t mind winning.
But Theo Walcott pulled one back just before half-time and Olivier Giroud and Koscielny almost completed the comeback. The Gunners eventually forced extra time when Walcott equalised in injury time.
The momentum had now swung to the Arsenal and sure enough, a Marouane Chamakh goal looked to have won it in extra time. But that wasn’t to be as Pavel Pogrebnyak levelled the game at 5-5.
But, with penalties looming, Walcott got his hat-trick to put Arsenal 6-5 up. Incredibly it still wasn’t over as Chamakh popped up to make it 7-5. Twelve goals in one game. Football, bloody hell.
