Fabio Capello’s resignation last night predictably prompted plenty of jingoistic chatter from the Little Englander brigade. Worst of the lot was Barry Fry.
The charismatic Peterborough Director of Football appeared on Sky Sports News to discuss Capello’s resignation last night and although some anti-Fabio-speak was probably to be expected from a man who epitomises the stereotypical John Bull Englishman, an incredibly xenophobic rant about foreign managers came a little out of the blue.
“I can’t believe any Englishman wants another foreigner as manager of our country, I can’t believe there’s one out there,” Fry roared while punching the table passionately and frightening the life out of the presenters.
“We want an Englishman full of passion and commitment for our country, I’m telling you, we’ve had enough of these foreigners,” he continued.
“They ain’t got no passion, they ain’t got no commitment, all they want is money. Let’s get Harry in, there’s only one bloke, forget about anybody else, Harry Redknapp is our man.”
They might not have managed England, but does Barry Fry think that the likes of Arsene Wenger and José Mourinho were only interested in money?
And need we remind Fry that Fabio Capello had the highest win percentage of any permanent England manager and that several players have already come out and expressed their disappointment that he’s gone.
Not to worry, says Barry, ‘Arry will take care of everything. Check out Fry’s incredibly xenophobic and one-sighted rant for yourself in the video above.
