Of all the footballers in the world, it seems appropriate that Andrea Pirlo is the one with his own vineyard.
Footballers don’t come much more cultured than Andrea Pirlo. The man plays the game at his own pace, can control a game with effortless ease and his ability to strike a free-kick is a form of artistry that has often been copied but rarely equalled.
Pirlo’s taste for the finer things isn’t limited to his football, however. It turns out that Pirlo’s family own a vineyard in Brescia and when he hangs up his boots, he will spend his time focussing on vintage wines as opposed to vintage performances on the pitch (see video above).
Like a fine wine, Pirlo seems to have got better with age and he will play a vital role in Juventus’ attempts to seal their passage to the Champions League quarter-finals against Celtic tomorrow night.
Although all is rosé in the Juve camp thanks to their grape 3-0 victory in Celtic Park, Pirlo has been around too long and has too many medals in the trophy cabernet to take it as red that it’ll be all white on the night (we’ll get our coats).
