Liverpool against Blackburn on a Tuesday night didn’t look very promising but it turned out to be one of the most intriguing games of the season. It wasn’t good enough to cheer up Kenny Dalglish though.

Depending on how the season plays out, Liverpool’s late 3-2 victory over Blackburn at Ewood Park may not matter that much in the long run. But it will be remembered as one of the craziest games of the 2011-12 Premier League.

Liverpool, with second-choice keeper Alexander Doni in goal for the suspended Pepe Reina, saw the Italian sent off after 25 minutes after he hauled down Junior Hoilett.

On came Liverpool’s third-choice stopper Brad Jones and with his first touch he stopped a tame penalty effort from Yakubu. It was Jones' first touch in the league since his son Luca died dies of leukaemia last year and he dedicated the save to him after the game.

But Jones was lucky not to see red himself after he pushed over Yakubu in the penalty area on the hour mark. The Aussie escaped with a yellow and the Yak got up and converted it to make it 2-2, cancelling out a brace of Maxi goals that had put Liverpool in control when they had 11 men on the field.

As the game wound down the 10 men pushed forward and then, to cap a mad night, Andy Carroll scored the winner, ending his long goal drought, giving Liverpool all three points.

But was Kenny Dalglish happy in the post-match press conference? In a word no. Unhappy with the referee, unhappy with Sky’s Andy Burton or a bit of both? We don’t know but it makes for awkward viewing.
