Ahead of their big game next weekend, Manchester United and Liverpool players appear together in an ad for Chevrolet, who sponsor both clubs. It’s pretty bad.
As you probably know, from 2014-15 American car manufacturer Chevrolet will be Manchester United’s shirt sponsor. The auto giant paid a reported £357million for their names to be on the famous red shirts for seven years, so we are not surprised to see United players pop up in an ad for the company.
But last summer Chevrolet also signed a deal with arch-rivals Liverpool to become their automotive supplier until 2016. Up to now there hasn’t been any attempt to combine the two interests by Chevy but with Liverpool heading to Old Trafford next Sunday this ad has appeared online and it just feels wrong.
Starring the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Robin van Persie from United and Glen Johnson, Jonjo Shelvey and Jordan Henderson from the ‘Pool it sees spliced shots of two players repeating a mantra about how much their own club means.
Called The Manifesto we aren’t big fans of it here as rivals as fierce as these two just look wrong in the same ad. We can only imagine it would be even less appealing if you support United or Liverpool and based on the YouTube comments on the ad since it was posted, it is already going down quite badly.
Anyway, let us know what you think of it below.
Hat-tip to the lads at Balls for the spot.
