He can score goals and swear into the camera with the best of them, but Wayne Rooney certainly has no future in acting, that’s for sure.
That’s if his performance in an advert for Chilean wine company and Manchester United sponsor Casillero del Diablo is anything to go by, as Wayne teams up with Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs for an ad even more cringeworthy than Luis Figo’s Just for Men effort and Denis Hickie’s ill-advised tie-in with Wavin Pipes a few years back.
Rooney, looking dapper in a new suit and new hairline, never looks comfortable when delivering his lines about a so-called devil that is on its way to Old Trafford, but it is his uncomfortable chin-rub at the end that really shows up his lack of thespian skills.
Giggs, despite sporting the half confused, half angry look that has become his trademark, gives a pretty decent performance while Evra’s single line is delivered in an accent so deep and filled with bass that it would put Barry White to shame.
But the real star, or to put it more accurately, the talentless heartbeat of the show is Rooney, who in only 48 seconds undoes any hope of a future in acting and ensures plenty of fodder for away fans throughout the rest of the season.
Best stick to the day job Wayne.
