Video: Shamrock Rovers don't have much to fear from Ekranas if this own goal is anything to go by

Shamrock Rovers fans fearing a tough test against Ekranas in the Champions League qualifying round will rest easy when they see this comical own goal from the Lithuanian side.

The Hoops take on the Lithuanian champions in the second round of qualifying for the Champions League next month having avoided some of the bigger names in the draw for Europe’s premier club competition.

Ekranas will be something of an unknown quantity for Stephen Kenny’s men, but if their defending is anything like the standard shown in the video above when they come to Tallaght Stadium next month, then Gary Twigg and company could have a field day.

Playing against top of the table rivals Kruoja in what is renowned to be an ultra-competitive Lithuanian top flight recently, Ekranas were coasting at 1-0 midway through the first half when disaster and hilarity struck in equal measure.

Attempting to deal with a cross from the left wing, defender Ignas Dedura saw the ball shank horribly off his boot in the direction of the goal, although his goalkeeper Zubas could have done a whole lot better than flop on the ground like a attention-seeking seal.

The speed at which the whole incident takes place makes it appear as if everything was happening in slow-motion, but it will no doubt form a key part of Kenny’s analysis when he studies the opposition in the next few weeks, i.e. these lads aren't up to much.

Check out what was a frankly terrible own goal for yourself in the video above.
