Video: Stunning bicycle kick shows that beach football isn't always crap
We aren’t the biggest fans of beach football in JOE Towers, but it’s hard not to appreciate the quality of this bicycle kick.
Desperately in need of a football fix after the Euros earlier this week, I actually sat down and watched about 20 minutes of the European qualifiers for the 2013 Beach Football World Cup, but couldn’t take any more after seeing play constantly break down due to the fairly significant problem that the ball kept getting caught in the bloody sand.
I actually had to laugh at one point when the commentator said that beach football never failed to entertain, but after watching the bicycle kick in the video above, at least there was some small kernel of truth in what he was saying.
The remarkable goal came from Amarelle of Spain, who secured victory for his country over Ukraine with a stunning overhead kick, dinking it up for himself on the halfway line and giving the Ukrainian ‘keeper no chance with an awesome strike into the top corner.
It was a brilliant strike no doubt and worthy of winning of any game but enough to convince me to watch beach football on a regular basis? Not on your life.
Check it out for yourself in the video above.
