We might often go overboard when describing an open goal miss as the worst of all time, but we reckon this one genuinely takes the biscuit.
In most cases when there is a truly awful miss, the perpetrator might be unlucky with a bit of a bobble or a ball coming across the goalmouth at great pace, but none of those factors came into play when Flamengo’s Deivid missed an open goal against Vasco da Gama last night.
With the Flamengo full-back having busted a gut to create the opportunity after Ronaldinho released him down the right wing, Deivid was presented with an open goal a little more than a yard out.
With the ball moving him towards him at snail's pace, he casually prodded it towards goal only to watch in horror as the ball rebounded off the post, across the goal and was eventually cleared to safety.
The worst thing about it all was that Flamengo were level at 1-1 at the time and Vasco went on to win 2-1. Deivid looked absolutely horrified immediately after the miss and well he might have done, it truly was horrendous and his teammates probably joined him in wishing the ground opened up and swallowed him whole.
We genuinely think it’s up there with the worst misses ever seen, have a look at the video above and see whether or not you agree.
