Not only did nine-man Ireland under-21s beat Italy away from home tonight, but Conor Henderson was responsible for scoring one of the goals of the season.

Having lost against Hungary last week Noel King’s side couldn’t qualify for the European Championships next summer regardless of what happened tonight, but by God they went out on a high with a 4-2 victory on Italian soil.

Highlight of the night was undoubtedly an absolutely stunning strike from Arsenal youngster Conor Henderson, who beat the Italian netminder with a dipping drive from fully 35 yards out that flew into the top corner in the second half.

After what have been a few difficult days for Irish football fans, it’s great to have something positive to talk about and we’ll all be hoping that Henderson will be doing this in a senior jersey for both Arsenal and Ireland in the near future.
