Mayo v Dublin: 10 Questions with… Chris Barrett

Before facing a tough examination against Dublin on Sunday, Chris Barrett sat down with the lads at Elverys to give an insider’s guide to the Mayo panel.

Scorer of two crucial points against Tyrone in the All-Ireland semi-final, Belmullet man Chris Barrett is likely to have a key role to play against the Dubs again this weekend at both ends of the pitch. A member of the All-Ireland under-21 winning team in 2006, Barrett has been around the Mayo set-up long enough to know the score on which of his teammates fancy themselves with the ladies and who is lacking in the fashion department and along with admissions about his favourite boots and toughest opponent, he gave the folks at Elverys all the inside info on the Mayo panel before the big day. Chris Barrett: Adidas supernovas, with the silver heel. I wear adipure blackouts at the moment. Elverys: Who’s been your toughest opponent on the field so far? Chris Barrett: Michael Conroy. According to Chris Barrett, Michael Conroy is his toughest ever opponent and the ladies' man on the Mayo panel Elverys: Best Gaelic Football goal or point of all time? Chris Barrett: Maurice Fitz’s sideline ball. Elverys: Best sporting occasion you were ever at and why? Chris Barrett: In the Kop for a Liverpool v Man United game. Or a Comortas Peile na Gaeltachta weekend, they’re great craic. Elverys: What’s your nickname and where did it come from? Apart from yourself, who has the best nickname on the panel? Chris Barrett: Chris the Sheep, from the episode of Father Ted. Self explanatory! There are a few good nicknames on the panel. Elverys: Who on the team reckons he’s the biggest hit with the females? Chris Barrett: Mickey C. Chris Barrett: There are a lot of Hollister and Abercrombie fans on the panel that could do with a makeover (Alan Dillon.) The Breaffy boys are always well togged out, and an honourable mention to Ger Caff, he has come so far since his jersey wearing days.
