Cheeky Cavan fans have been rolling out the welcome signs for Seanie Johnston

15/07/2012 11:44 am

It remains to be seen what sort of reception Seanie Johnston will get in Breffni Park this afternoon, but some cheeky Cavan fans didn’t pass up the opportunity to welcome him back to his home turf.

Supporters driving to the Cavan County grounds to watch Kildare v Cavan this afternoon are likely to pass by a sign that reads “Welcome home Seanie” and features a picture of him sat on a Cavan crest in the days when he did line out for his native county.

On closer inspection, however, it appears that the poster is not simply a cheeky message for a former favourite son, but a blatant publicity stunt on behalf of Fintan Cahill Auctioneers, who are based in Virginia and deal in the property market all over the Cavan region.

We’re unaware whether Fintan had anything to do with helping Seanie secure the pad in Straffan that helped copper fasten the transfer to Kildare, but no doubt he’ll reap some benefit from this little stunt; he got one extra visitor on his website from us anyway so that’s a start.

From being depicted as a clown in yesterday’s Irish Sun to this cheeky poster, plenty of people are having some light-hearted fun at Seanie’s expense in the build-up to today’s game and we wouldn’t be surprised if he delivers some karma of his own out on the pitch.
