Cunningham named manager of the month
The day after he found out his side will face Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final Galway manager Anthony Cunningham has been named Philips Sports Manager of the Month for July.
The Galway chief was at the helm as his side produced stunning performance at the start of the month to beat Kilkenny by 2-21 to 2-11 to end Kilkenny’s 7-year reign as Leinster champions.
The importance of the victory was underlined as Galway went on to beat a rejuvenated Cork side to reach their first All-Ireland final since their losing effort in 2005 to Cork.
Kilkenny have since regrouped by beating Limerick and Tipperary in impressive style to make their seventh consecutive appearance in an All-Ireland final
Galway and Kilkenny face each other on the 9th September in Croker Park. Galway will be looking to win their first All-Ireland hurling title since 1988.
Cunningham was appointed Galway hurling boss last November after years of underachievement from the Tribesman.
