Cyber bullying has unfortunately made more headlines recenly than we would have liked, but one GAA club in Donegal is taking a stand against online bullying.
By Declan Whooley
Recent tragic deaths have sparked more debate about online bullying and how it can be monitored and Donegal is one of the many counties in Ireland that has suffered from serious consequences of this growing trend.
Termon GAA club has said that it will operate a zero-tolerance policy on any comments posted on their Facebook page and will name and shame offenders if necessary.
In a hard-hitting statement, the north Donegal club said it is their duty to remove or block friends who post insulting or offensive comments.
“The pain and devastation caused to the families of those who have taken their lives due to online bullying is unacceptable to us at Termon GAA,” the statement said.
“We will have no hesitation in naming and shaming those continue to bully online. We will also report you to Facebook and the relevant authorities,” warns a spokesman for Termon GAA club.
Good to see such a public and pro-active approach in the GAA to such a serious issue.
